Every day, the urban form and architecture of the city structure our daily journey. These architectural qualities influence the way we live and our participation in the environment in which we live. How building structures can be created to contribute of a high quality and density in exterior and interior spaces?
The project proposes an activation of the area, from a polar corner to another, by the creation of a large main path. The route consists of two perpendicular streets, each conveying a distinct atmosphere, joined at the center by a large public square and a cultural center, future landmark of the neighborhood.
The first axis – Aschauer Strasse – is being refurbished and redeveloped as its main functions are being reinforced through an architectural intervention. The street now presents itself, within the project, as a strong boulevard and working sector with factories, workshops as well as office spaces.
The second axis – a pedestrian friendly street joining Aschauer Strasse and Balanstrasse – meets the first axis at a great joint, the main plaza of the area, a place for gathering and leisure, where events can be hold. This street, including the cultural center, consists of 4 architectural developments and welcomes a great variety of uses and users.
The Great Street project also focuses on the creation of break times, moments of pause – plazas, squares and courtyards that act as urban living rooms. This urban philosophy, addressing the human’s need of balanced social interactions in the city space, sits at the center of this design.
