Our main vision was to extend the Domagkpark to the east with a new offer of sport activities. Furthermore, we planned to transform the exisiting military buildings right next to our site to an art village with new atelier and exhibition spaces for the Domagkateliers in the south. We see the Powerbar as a dense structure that stands in between the northern industrial area and the park with its surrounding residential district which provides a variety of programming and housing typologies. In the design process, we worked with the different surrounding situations of our site, including the noisy Frankfurter Ring and the small scale structure of the allotment gardens.
The studies on site influenced our design process a lot. We wanted to offer new meeting spaces in between the dense structure and inside the park additionally to the existing ones from our analysis. The former military zone works as a transit zone between the green park and the more urban northern part of our Powerbar. In the center of the project we implemented a new triangular urban square. The distribution road from north to south enables access for slow traffic and short-term parking possibilities. A main north-south connection along the western edge allows bike traffic and lead visitors around the residential district in the south.
